Non-adherence to vaccination: an integrative literature review
Abstract
Vaccination is a routine action in health services, with great influence on the health of the population. It represents a significant technological advance in health in recent decades, and is considered a cost-effective procedure for disease prevention. It is known that a large part of the population has failed to vaccinate itself and/or vaccinate its children, as evidenced by the lack of vaccination coverage, registered by the municipalities through the national immunization program (PNI) and by the return of vaccine-preventable diseases already eradicated. Objective: To identify the evidence available in the national and international literature on non-adherence to vaccination. Method: integrative literature review, synthesizes the scientific production on the reasons why people do not get vaccinated and do not vaccinate their children. The bibliographic survey of articles published in indexed journals was carried out in electronic databases: LILACS, SciELO, PubMed. Results: 1203 articles were found, and after the analysis, the final sample of the study consisted of 12 articles, which showed fear of adverse events and lack of information/guidance as the main causes of vaccine refusal. Conclusion: The research showed the importance of rethinking the strategies of educational actions, especially by nurses, so that greater adherence to vaccination by the population is possible.Attribution License that allows the sharing of the manuscript with acknowledgment of authorship and initial publication in this magazine.
